Fraud Alert - Please Be Vigilant
We have been made aware of a sophisticated phishing and vishing (phone scam) campaign targeting credit union members.
How the Scam Works
Members receive an email claiming that they can achieve a 25% to 30% reduction in their ESB electricity bills by opening or saving with the Credit Union.
The email may appear professional and convincing and may ask members to provide:
- Name
- Email address
- Date of Birth
- Credit Union Membership Number
- PIN Number
After this information has been submitted, the fraudster may telephone the member, claiming to be "Michael from the Credit Union" or another Credit Union representative. During the call, the fraudster attempts to obtain additional personal and financial information, including bank account details and One-time security codes.
Important Reminder
✅ The Credit Union will never ask you to provide your PIN number by email or phone.
✅ The Credit Union will never ask for your online banking passwords or security codes.
✅ Do not click on links or open attachments in suspicious emails.
✅ If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the Credit Union and requesting sensitive information, end the call immediately and contact us directly using our official telephone number.
If You Believe You Have Been Affected
If you have provided information in response to one of these emails or phone calls:
- Contact the Credit Union immediately.
- Contact your bank if you have disclosed banking details.
- Change any passwords that may have been compromised.
- Monitor your accounts for unusual activity.
Stay Safe
Fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated and may use convincing emails, websites, and telephone calls to obtain personal information. Please remain vigilant and treat any unsolicited request for personal or financial information with extreme caution.
If in doubt, contact the Credit Union directly before taking any action.
